First, a person has more than 500 follicles per square inch. Each follicle is capable of growing a hair at any time. However, less than 20% of them grow at the same time.

Second, the hair follicles grow in cycles. Since not all grow at once, there are many periods of rest for hair follicles. During these rest periods, hair may remain in the follicle for a long time, or it may fall out. The follicle actually shrinks during the rest period and the dermal papilla cells are separated from the bottom of the follicle.

When the rest period is over, the follicle grows down to meet the dermal papilla again, and the cells start making another hair. This cycle continues throughout one's lifetime.

For many of the hairs that are typically treated by permanent methods, the period of active growth may only ast for 2 weeks after you see the hair. As you will learn, it is vital to treat these hairs within this 2 week period while they are still growing.

Third, it takes 8-12 weeks for a hair to grow from the base of the follicle to the surface of the skin. This means that even if you tweeze a hair out, you have to wait up to 12 weeks for the hair to grow again.

Many people think that if they tweeze or wax all the hairs from an area of skin one day, and see hairs in the same area the next week, that these are the same hairs that have regrown. But in reality, the hairs you see a week later are from a completely different hair follicle.

How it works:
Apply conductive gel (included) to the treatment area. Insert the cotton bud into its holder. Dip the cotton into the gel and apply to the treatment area. Small pulses of completely safe electrical energy pass through the gell and onto the cotton bud. When the cotton is applied to the treatment area, this energy passes through to the hair follicle. The water and salt solution are then chemically changed to sodium hydroxide, which slowly destroys the hair root and papilla. This allows for painless and permanent removal of the hair.
